Didja know I was a racist? I didn’t

Until today, I didn’t know that I was a racist.

See, I got this call where this woman asked if I would participate in a telephone survey. I said that I really didn’t have the time, but she was persistant. She told me that it wouldn’t take much time at all and would really help her out as she had a quota.

“All I gotta do is axe you 10 questions” She said

“ASK” I replied.

Long pause.

“What” she said

“ASK. Ay Ess Kay”. I replied. “Not axe….An axe is what you chop trees down with…You can’t axe a question. You ASK them”.

She got silent for a minute, then another voice came on the line. Her supervisor.

Who told me that my “Mocking” of the first girls use of words was racist.

I hung up .

Apparently I am supposed to feel bad. Or something.

See:

So, a week or so after the Philippines were hit by Typhoon Yolanda Haiyan, the world powers are beginning the process of bringing relief to the beleaguered islands of the Philippines and the Filipinos whose homes were destroyed. But they have had to wait a week.

A week is, no doubt for them, an extremely long time…But really, when one considers the scope of the relief effort, and the distances involved, it is really a remarkably fast response time. Tons of food, and bottled water. Thousands of troops. Logistics…Finding a place to send the supplies….. Bringing in soldiers to move the food, water and shelter…… Providing security (and food and shelter) for those folks and the supplies that they are bringing and distributing. (Hungry people with hungry children aren’t terribly logical or law abiding….. The veneer of civilization and society is very thin at the best of times..When things get pear-shaped, it may disappear entirely).

Now, if your home is gone, wiped out by the storm,  just plain isn’t there anymore…that is one thing….But this is a perfect example of what I preach so often: HAVE SOME FOOD AND A SOURCE OF DRINKING WATER AVAILABLE FOR EMERGENCIES!. I’d bet that most of the folks who are demanding food and water had the ability to store some food and water (or a water filter)  in their homes, and most of those homes, while possibly damaged, are not destroyed. Had there been food and water stored there, most of it would have survived.

How handy would some canned food, (and a can opener) and a water filter be for those folks right now? Even the poorest person could save 1 can a month and have a decent stash of food after a year…after 2, or 3 years they would have enough under their bed or in a closet to keep them going, if not happy for a long time.

Now, again, if your home isn’t there anymore then things are different. But that is NOT the case for most.

Most are near starving and dehydrated because they chose not to plan ahead and their normal distribution systems have broken down or just don’t exist anymore.

Think things will be much different in the US? See also:Katrina.

Plan ahead a bit. be the Ant rather than the Grasshopper. Yes, if something very bad happens in the US or in nearly any first or second world country, aid will come. But plan to survive until it does. It may well take a while to get there. Say…a week or two.

Show this to all your friends.

Especially the liberal ones who believe that the answer is always Big Government…..and/or a Democrat solution.

I’m talking about HealhSherpa. Written by THREE GUYS. And it works for 34 states (others coming soon). And it is as easy to use as any E-commerce site. Not like Healthcare.gov. Try it. You’ll see.

Nothing Government does is done well. Nothing.  There is no motivation to do better. Ever.

If you like your plan (and it hasn’t been canceled) you can keep it for a while longer

So he put off an unpopular portion of the law

For 1 year. If the insurance companies choose to re-instate the
plans that were cancelled because they didn’t meet the new Obamacare standards.

Then we are back to where we were yesterday. No fix, only a dleay

Of course, by then, the elections will be over….And nothing will really be fixed. This is, (pardon the pun) a Band-Aid at best. The whole thing is (sadly) a joke.

How is it that The “WON” is able to arbitrarily set aside or delay portions of a law? How is it that the Congress allows him to do this? (Much less the press and the people).  This is, by definition, Tyrrany.

If the President can arbitrarily change or delay any law, then we no longer have the rule of law as mandated by the Constitution.   And if he can change one law by Fiat, then he can change another. Your laws which protect and define your way of life are there only at his whim.

If the law is bad, then repeal it or change the bad portion. (not that I believe that the PPAFC can actually ever be fixed) according to the Constitution. Not by Fiat.

(let us not forget that the Supremes have decided that the non compliance fees for Obamacre are a Tax….and that all laws regarding taxes MUST originate in the house….which didn’t happen).

I just hope that the Republicans (Spit!) are smart enough to not touch this ever bubbling mess. Don’t try to fix it, don’t help, nothing. Let the DNC and Barry get their hands dirty….after all, they own it.

Decent people in need

Will do terrible things to survive.

How thin the veneer of civilization.

There are those who will steral food and water to survive or feed their children, which I can understand…

But looting the rest of the things, like TV’s and other appliances?

Think things will be civilized if TSHTF? Think again.

Just wait until things have gone on for 6-10 days. When people will kill for food.

Think of what it would be like if there was no aid coming….unlike now when 30+ countries are sending food and relief supplies.

Plan ahead for such an eventuality. If you live in a large (or medium) city, plan a way to not be there after things go wonky. If you live outside of a city, plan to have a way to keep what you have.

Or else be like the shopkeeper in the article, who stood there with a gun in his hand, unwilling to defend his property by using deadly force.

Plan, decide, or face the consequences.

Wishful thinking?

Forbes doesn’t think so.

I do, however. We are stuck in this mess until we start over with a better kind of lowlife congressmen and senators (which ain’t gonna happen until wew change the way we allow people to vote….

But Forbes (or at least the columnist) thinks we have a chance.

We shall see

I’d like to think

that I could be this honest and all that.

But I dunno.

$98K?

Tax free….no one knows? And legal? I mean he bought the desk…..

Damn, but I’d be tempted…..

Probably best that I never have that challenge. Not sure if I’d pass it or not.

I hear it’s warm down there though./….
