What with the MU-2 training, some health issues, and just generally being busy.
But Sunday was about as nice a day to fly as it gets.
So with some arrangement with Aaron, we decided to fly and meet him at Mt Pleasant Michigan for dinner and some gambling.
Preflighted, fired up, and picked up a clearance (mistake on my part, I should have gone VFR)…did a runup and took off.
11,000 but not direct…they pushed us east for 40 miles for arriving Chicago airliner traffic. I did consider cancelling and going VFR, but at the end of it, traffic is traffic and we were already out of our desired route…
Then we got direct and flew at 200 knots for about 50 minutes to Mt Pleasant. Did a decent approach and landing on RWY 9 with a 8 knot direct crosswind. (Aaron has a nice photo on his blog)
Taxiied up to the parking, shut down, chocked the wheels and shook hands with Aaron, who had arrived before us.
(Read his post about it here)
We went inside called for the shuttle, and chatted and caught up while we waited.
Soon enough the three of us were on the shuttle and then at the casino. Slots for some, craps for Aaron, and I proceeded to lose money at blackjack.
Aaron, however, had a good run.
Too soon, it was time to go. Aaron did spring for dinner since he was the winner that day.
We caught the shuttle beck to KMOP airport, shook hands, preflighted, and fired up the planes.

Aaron followed me out and we taxiied to the end of Rwy 27…the wind was 170 ish at 7 so there was no “better” runway and 27 was my direction of flight.
Made my calls for the CTAF, pulled out onto the runway, then waited for the helicopter to clear the departure area, and took off, rotated at 85 knots and climbed out at 110.
Make my final call as I cleared the airport terminal area, then contacted departure and requested flight following back home at 10,500 ft
It was hazy but VFR all the way back home but we cruised at about 185 knots and in less than an hour we were turning in for an approach and landing. Wind was more or less right down the runway so I did a near-perfect landing and rolled out to the end.
Pulled up to the hangar and opened the doors, got out the tug and parked the 340.
It is always a good day when you can fly to see good friends.1.1 and 1.0 and 2 decent crosswind landings.
