Flood thoughts

Still about a hundred missing. More than a hundred known dead. Say a prayer for the victims and their families.

Lots of finger pointing abut the “warnings” that didn’t happen locally in Texas: “No one warned us!!.  No one told us to leave!” There should be a system in place!

People gotta be smarter. It shouldn’t take a government (local, state, or Federal)  to tell you to be careful of the weather…Use modern weather tools to look at what the weather is gonna be. The forecasts were there a day before. Sharp and pointed warnings 12 hours before.

Rather than spend millions and millions of dollars on a flood warning system along the Guadalupe river,,,,, Sirens and/or text messages will be a system of limited utility, after all…..

Stop building and living on the flood plain. If your home was flooded, don’t rebuild. Take the insurance and the disaster money and find a safer place to make a home. The land along the river plains is cheap for a reason.

Few places that have flooded in the past 40+ years flooded for the first time. History rhymes, after all.

They call them Flood Plains for a reason. They are even mapped out by the Federal Government.

If you camp on a flood plain, either in a tent or an RV, pay attention to the weather.

AND:

Rather than wait in a flooding cabin or home or RV along the river for motorized transport to flee the floods, rather than watch the floodwaters rise to envelop you and your family, why not walk uphill (even in the rain, even in the dark) to higher ground to flee the floodwaters? GTF out of the floodplain rather than drown or be swept away.  Yes, I understand that the waters rose “rapidly”…but it took about 2 hours to rise 20 feet. See the trend and GTFO sooner rather than later. Be proactive in the protection of your lives, (Note that this also applies to the adults in the children’s camp: Wet and cold little girls are better than dead ones…lead them to safety, don’t wait for a bus to move them if the waters are rising and the bus isn’t there. ).

 

You can’t change the past, but you can learn from it and change the future.

 

 

We didn’t vote for Amnesty:

We voted for deportations. GTF out or be thrown out.

Charlie Kirk is sounding the alarm over what he claims is growing pressure from “ruling class” donors urging President Donald Trump to trade deportations for amnesty

I don’t care if the business owners and farm owners and other businesses and the “Ruling Class” need cheap labor. They can pay more or invest in automation. Not every business gets cheap labor from illegals and they somehow survive. I ran a motel for 20 years without illegal labor. Even made money some years. If the farms need labor, they can pay for it, same-same slaughterhouses, hotels, construction gangs, etc.

If the donations dry up, too bad…the votes won’t.

We want the illegals gone. Period,, Stop

I flew yesterday

In the 340.

It was humid.

Oddly, despite loading no chemicals, I left a contrail at 11,500 feet over Lake Michigan.

 

So did most of the planes whose paths I crossed under.

I expected better from a Trump DOJ, The Biden folks I expected (and was not surprised) to be corrupt. But I thought there would be some integrity with Trump’s people.

 

Does anyone believe that Epstein didn’t keep a client list? Really?

Or that he committed suicide?

 

One wonders what pressure was brought to thee people, and by whom? Who is afraid of what story coming out? Someone very rich and powerful, I am thinking.

Terrible news from Texas

Children’s camps wiped out by floods.

The people running these camps, from counselors on upwards (if they survived), should be charged with negligent homicide for not heeding the warnings. Every parent should get one good whack with a sick on each of them as long as they survive.

Low-lying children’s camps flooded, leading to dozens of dead and missing. 

Say a prayer for those missing children and their families. It doesn’t look good.

Finally!

Got the 340 back yesterday.

 

Seems fine (so far). 2.4 hours and no issues.

 

A friend flew me there in an RV-6. Nice airplane, if a bit small. Fast airplane for what it is. Tiny airplane with a fairly powerful engine for it’s size. 150knots at 8K. Very responsive and really easy to fly. I did help him learn some finer points about his 650 GPS, which seemed to help him.

 

Flying back from Minneapolis:

 

17,000 feet at about 77% power I got 218 knots for about a half hour, but the outside air temps went up by 5 degrees F and I just couldn’t keep the cylinder heads cool enough, so I had to bring it back a bit.

 

ATC was pretty good until of course, Chicago….they didn’t want to descend me (as usual) and soon I was 40 miles away with 16,000 feet to lose. I finally demanded lower and so they turned me south rather than the easterly direction I needed and descended me…first to 12K, then 8K….then they just plain forgot about me (as usual)….I called “Chicago approach, question” and got back “Go direct destination” ….They knew that I knew that they had forgotten me.

So that cost me about 10 minutes.

I turned for home, called the field about 14 miles out, cancelled IFR and made a base leg entry, and landed.

Landing was good, right into the wind, and I made the 2500 ft turnoff with room to spare. Took the long way back for taxi as I wanted to let the turbos cool down for a bit.

We shall see. So far, no issues with the engine. The oil looks clear and clean, but there isn’t that many hours on it yet.
