I am seriously worried

(Well, shit, they did it)

This was scheduled for Sunday morning, but written Saturday afternoon….It looks like the Israelis have gotten the US involved now. I seriously hope it doesn’t end badly. Personally, I think getting directly involved is a really bad mistake…let the Saudis and Israel finish this.

I am very worried that Israel, and (clandestinely) the Saudis and Omanis are gonna get the United States in a hot war with Iran.

I get it, no one wants a nuclear Iran. They have stated that they will strike Israel if they get a working weapon,…and, apparently, they have enough enriched uranium to do so…(the rest of the device is just engineering these days)…And Iran has been lying for years about their enrichment program claiming it was only for peaceful purposes…and a weak United States and Europe has allowed them to amp up their efforts. Apparently they now have enough to get busy making the actual devices. , which is why Israel thought they had to act. …(Supposedly, alone)

But the House of Saud knows that they will be next after Israel, and then the Omanis and the rest of the richer oil nations…So they are…helping the cause, shall we say? I would bet the intelligence as to the immediately current whereabouts of the generals and other officials in Iran just before the initial airstrike was supplied by the other arab nations…

Yes, at some point they (maybe) might try to do something against the United states {The Great Satan} but only after they do their middle east foes first…To be fair, they have promised to destroy us as much as they have promised to destroy Israel (and for nearly as long)…and let’s face it, they have been promising that for nearly 35 years)

But they (The Israelis and the Saudis) are gonna try and drag the US into this mess. I think we should let the Middle East do their thing, their way. We got enough things on our plate.

Let the Saudis and the Israelis do the attacks, the destruction. It isn’t, at least at this time, our responsibility. We should let the residents of that part of the world do the cleanup. Enough of the US being the worlds janitorial service,  Let Saudis and the Israelis spend the blood of their soldiers, rather the that of the US servicemen and women. Let the middle east supply the warriors, not the United States.

Ermaaghaad!

It’s gonna be HOT for the next couple of days!

The weather people are gong nuts.  They can’t stop talking about “Heat Index”.

At the end of it, it is expected to be about 96 degrees for the next few days,. You’d think the world was ending.

I call it “Summer”.

Deal with it.

And, of course, this is “PROOF !!” of Global Warming…(these temps, even this early in the summer, are not records …..but the weather presenters oddly forget to mention that fact)

Jesus, people, it is summer. Temps between 60 and 100 (F) are normal for this area. If you can’t remember that, and believe that this is unusual because the Media tells you so, then you need help with your cognition and memory.  If you can’t handle the temps, then stay inside or don’t work that hard. But it isn’t Armageddon. It’s Hot and Humid and part of the climate.

Me? I’m gonna do some work this Saturday with some folks at the Range. Infrastructure improvements. Mostly power tools and a backhoe, but we are gonna need to use shovels and such as well, it is gonna be sweaty. Instead of starting at 9 we are gonna start about 7:30….that’s the entire accommodation we are gonna make due to the heat…And we are, each of us, 55 or older.

Watermelon for Juneteenth:

Relax you leftist Karens, put your fist away…..

Nope, I am not being racist. I know you jumped to that conclusion, but it just ain’t so

Supposedly, along with Red Velvet Cake, Watermelon is a “Traditional Food” for Juneteenth…along with any red colored food. Also “barbecue” is now a  “Traditional Food”. And collard Greens (with red peppers)

If you thought it was racist, then that’s on you.

It ain’t like I suggested Fried Chikkin…

Funny how a (newly proclaimed) holiday now has “Traditional Foods” innit?

You’d almost think it was somehow made up or something…Like Kwanza

Overheard:

I love to watch people and, if I can, I admit sometimes listen to what they say if they speak loudly (and often they do)…It can sometimes be amusing:

Next booth over at breakfast:

“Most people are born via the vagina of a woman: He came out the other hole…..”

I gotta say I did indeed spit coffee over the table at the diner…

No I do not know the person who said it…nor the person to whom they were referring.

Wednesday Words of Wisdom 38

Sorry, the scheduler….didn’t…

I just caught the fact that WWW wasn’t up.

Good news on the 340

They found the missing bit of metal by fishing around the oil pan through the drain hole with a magnet.

So 99(+)%  of the impulse coupling is accounted for.

I just don’t get it

I mean, despite the fact that I disagree with them, I can understand the whole “No more deportations:” part of the protests. They want illegal immigration and dislike the fact that the ICE agents are enforcing the immigration laws.

But the “No King” bit is kinda stupid. It pretty much seems to be a rehashed “I hate Trump” schtick.

Precise targeting vs scattered shots

It appears that Israel, at least in their initial strike, had VERY precise shots, limiting the collateral damage, striking their hard targets with precision and knew where their human targets were to within meters at the time of the strike.

Iran, on the other hand, appears to be simply throwing missiles at the general area of Tel Aviv and hoping they hit something of importance.

Interesting difference come what may

Well, Shit

The right magneto on the right engine on the 340 shit the bed. Found it on the runup before taking off from Buffalo Minnesota. Switching magnetos and one was completely dead.

Taxiied back to parking and called the mechanic. We had hoped that it was just a bad magneto…but no, that isn’t the way my life works.

The impulse coupling for the magneto came apart, putting bits of metal into the engine….. we have all but a dime sized piece of metal and a quarter sized piece of rubber. Draining the oil pan found lots of bits of metal.

Engine has 164 hours on it. Just a bit over 10% of the expected service life.

There were small bits of metal in the oil filter element. Not a lot, but some, more than what was in the filter after the first oil change after 10 hours. So it is new metal, not just wear metal./break-in bits. When the oil pan was drained through a screen, most of the  missing metal seemed to be found in the oil, albeit in tiny pieces

RAM Engine (the folks that rebuilt it in 2023) is being kinda asinine to try and get out of the liability for the warranty.

The engine was SHIPPED in June of 2023. It was installed and returned to service in August of 2023…..They claim the 2 year full repair/replace warranty clock began when the engine was shipped, not when it was installed and in service. Therefore the full warranty expired on 6/6/2025. Kind of cheap and weasely  of them, really

I think they are shirking responsibility for a failure of a part that they supplied. Either way, it is what it is.

Ram Engines wants me to have the engine oil pan flushed and do high power runups until there is no delectable oil in the filter…The Mechanic/AP wants a full teardown and IRAN. I can see both sides.

On the one hand, all the oil goes through the filter, so the filter should have caught any bits of metal before it made it’s way into the rest of the engine and props………..right? .

On the other hand, it appears at least one piece of metal from the magneto drive coupling (maybe) went through the drive gears. leaving bits of metal in the oil pan. Did it hurt anything while being chewed up?

Teardown and IRAN is covered 50% but will take 8-12 weeks…and cost a fair bit of money….

Grr. My luck sucks. Decisions decisions

ETA:: I called two different  engine builders (competitors to RAM) and asked their advice…..

While they felt that RAM was being asinine about the warranty, they also, after reviewing some photos of the filters and the broken part all agreed that the solution suggested by RAM was a valid one, at least to start. They did not feel that the thin, small piece of soft steel would cause any issues going through the drive geartrain, nor was the amount of metal bits in the filter excessive nor were the pieces excessively large.

So that is the direction we are starting.
