Well, that was a fun challenge:

Showed up at the range for the normal Tuesday morning shoot.

The wind was less than 1 knot, and the skies were overcast but no rain, so we chose to shoot at the 50 yard outdoor range, rather than the indoor range, for the precision paper punching….

I used Vera II, the red white and blue 10-22 clone (No Ruger parts but the magazines)

We shot the targets bottom right to top left (yeah, I know, that’s not the correct way) then shot the staples (3 on each side) then the numbers under the targets, center then up, then down.

I didn’t think it would be a challenge, but then came the kicker….4 minutes for the entire target, 75 rounds, 5 per bullseye, then one each all the numbers and staples..

The time frame got to me. I did ok on the targets, did OK on the staples down each side, but rushed too much shooting at the numbers as I knew time was running out.

I missed 1 staple, bent but did not remove another so no score there, and missed 5 numbers and ran out of time for the other two…

All in all, I am OK with the target as a whole, but I should have (and can do) much better…psychological factors played as much as my rushing…and still I ran out of time.

It was a good challenge and a lot of fun. No prizes, just bragging rights.

A good way to spend a Tuesday morning…friends and firearms.

Words of Wisdom on a Wednesday 33

“I complained I had no shoes, ‘til I met a beggar who had no feet”

“A person whose heart carries poison yet wears a mask of kindness is more dangerous than one who walks with a sword”

“The tree does not offer it’s shade only to those who will thank it”

“Success is not JUST about climbing the ladder, but often is also ensuring that the ladder is leaning against the correct wall”

“Listen not only to a person’s words, but to their silences also”

“A sword yields no strength unless the hand that holds it has courage.”

“Some will love you not for what you give but for who you are”

“A toxic person will make you feel guilty for reacting to their disrespect”

“Remember: things are “impossible”….until they are not”

It just can’t be!

I mean, we’ve been told that every year the climate is heating up, hotter and hotter….Seas were gonna inundate the coastal cities because the glaciers were melting and the Poles were gonna be ice free in just another (and another) few years…

But now we find out that the poles are GAINING ice, and glaciers are GAINING ice mass. ...Bigly.

One might think that the climate doomsayers are lying or incompetent…ya know?

It is as I expected….

The “Chemtrail” folks, when pushed, couldn’t come up with anything substantive….

In fact, when the hard questions were asked, they faded away like Homer Simpson into the bushes.

I expect that if I asked the same from the “Vaccines are all bad” crowd, they’d do the same.

Not every conspiracy theory is wrong, but most are…..Most have their basis in fear and ignorance…Most of the followers of a particular conspiracy theory just can’t use logic, refuse to think critically and don’t bother to think clearly or use science..Their sources are anecdotal, and the “studies” they quote are poorly done with few rules or standards  And it shows…It’s more like a religion.

And the worst part is the reinforce each other like women gossiping. What appear to be intelligent people go off-the-rails when it come to things like “chemtrails” and the “Vaccine Conspiracy”… They just repeat what others have said….

They never have anything substantive, nor can they provide those critical things like details…All they have is innuendo and anecdotes from someone that they don’t know who they heard about 5th-hand or saw in X or Facebook, but whose credentials they have no idea about….and when pressed they act like 7th grade girls in an argument, twisting and squirming and deflecting, but never answering. They BELIEVE because they need something to fear and to talk about.

Sad, really.

It is fun to mess with them though.
