Something to think about:

There are more Customs and Border patrol assets, (Helicopters, Vehicles, and personnel) at the SuperBowl for security currently than there are assigned to the border between Texas and Mexico from Del Rio to El Paso right now….and more than there has ever been in that area at any moment in 2024 so far.

Just let than thought sink in for a moment.

Plus, of course, think about the fact that the salaries and operating costs of those assets are funded by the US government, not the private venue that is hosting the SuperBowl.

Ask yourself why that it also….. there are not enough assets or money for border security but there are assets for the SuperBowl…..

Where I wuz yesterday

8000 ft.

The doc said OK to fly, but not too much. No other exercises for at least another 2 weeks (No CORE stuff, just walking and such). But flying is ok “As long as I don’t over do it” …..But “Overdo” is undefined. so a short trip of 1.1 hours out and 0.8 back.

One Rnav to the FAF.

2 landings…one perfectly on center, good but not as soft and smooth as I like ’em. and one that was smooth as silk but a bit off centerline.

The cruise down was smooth and beautiful though. Broken clouds at 4000 ish feet and clear above. Overcast about 18,000 above that.

Icing on the climb out, but only for a few minutes. We finally got the Cylinder #4 cooling issue solved.

1500 ft per minute with no issues (except costly fuel flow…..) at 140 knots on the climb.

I wasn’t going far enough to make a climb any higher worthwhile, but I think that climb rate should be sustainable until FL22 or so. But cruise at 70% power was 197 knots.

I am thinking we got it dialed in .

This is my shocked face

A study shows that it is likely that the 2020 election would have turned out much differently had the abuse of Mail in Ballots not happened.

(I know, right, who would have thought?)

At the end of it though, there’s no sense in getting all excited about it. Nothing we can do about the past , we can only go forward and make sure that it doesn’t happen again.

If we keep on in the past, then we are no better than the folks with Trump Derangement, really. Can’t fix the past, so just go forward with the lesson and move on.

We could, however hang those responsible for the fraud, but that’s a different discussion…..

“We shouldn’t teach about communism and only speak on the negative aspects of it.”

Are there positive aspects to Communism? Has it ever been a positive experience for most of it’s victims adherents? (besides the elite in the Communist governments and societies….has it EVER delivered on it’s promise for most of the citizens living in a communist country?

Go ahead, give me the list of examples…..I’ll wait…….

Yeah, I thought so. That’s why DeSantis wants to make sure that the education system tells kids the truth about the communist dream.

But there are people wo still think it is a good idea.

Don’t piss off the old lady

Sometimes they are a force of nature….

So I am at the hospital in the surgeon’s office waiting to get my checkup after my surgery, and there’s this kid in the waiting room making a ruckus and talking smack and shit to his buddy. He’s somewhere between 16 and 20, all acne’d up and a bunch of half assed tats on his head and neck. Pretty much just clowning around, but it was kinda getting on my nerves. I wasn’t the only one either.

Finally this old lady, asked him to quiet down. He did, but only for a few minutes, then he was back to his irritating behavior. I was struggling between “Don’t make a scene in the waiting room” and “teach this little asshole how to behave in public” when the issue was decided without me.

The old lady stood up, pointed a finger at him, and said “Boy, I’m 92 years old and you are starting to make me angry. Being this old, a life sentence isn’t much of an issue for me. Please don’t make me do something we both will regret”.

He looked at her, kinda frightened, and shut his pie hole. I was impressed, actually. Feisty old broad.

She looked at me and winked.

But he was still quiet when I was called into the office 10 minutes later. I don’t know what happened after that….they were both not there when I got out.

Kinda a fun airplane

So the guy who used to hangar his CIrrus SR22T next to my 340 sold that plane and bought a Cirrus Vision Jet.

He went thought the Cirrus training and then the insurance mandated additional training and just completed it. He wanted to show off his new toy and invited me to go up with him. I did.

Man, that is a tiny airplane. 4 seats (but you can’t fill the seats and the fuel tanks at the same time) but it is a fun airplane. Like a Ferrari or a Bugatti or a superbike, it is of limited usefulness but really fun. Won’t carry much but fast fast fast. Handles really nicely though.

I’m not sure I could find a use for it, but being able to cruise at 320 knots in the high 20’s/low 30’s flight levels would be nice for long trips….if all you want to take is one other person and a shaving kit.

It is, of course, so VERY CIrrus in the interior and instrumentation…..everything integrated and nicely tailored and laid out and ergonomic and ever so easy to operate…..and Jeff flies it The Cirrus Way….. While I only flew it for like 10 minutes or so, It handles like a race car, although the controls get pretty stiff after about 200 knots….. This is an airplane where you taxi to the runway, take off, engage the autopilot and let it fly the plane according to the flight plan you entered until time to land…..I think it takes the fun out of the whole experience.  But that’s me….or maybe it is Sour Grapes since I don’t have the scratch to buy a 3.5 million dollar airplane. But I’d like to be able to carry more than the Vision Jet will….., although I do wish my plane was faster….

It was a fun experience, however, and it was good to let my friend show off his new toy.

So how many pieces of silver did they promise

Norma Anderson?

I mean, there are people with Trump Derangement Syndrome, but most of those are Democrats. (with the exception of Liz Cheney, who went from hating him to obsessed) not republicans….

But this Norma Anderson is most obviously a front for someone else. She was a republican once, apparently, but has obviously become something else. She hates Trump….

“I’m an old-fashioned Republican that believes in strong defense, supporting business, and helping those who don’t know how to help themselves, and less government, and a fair tax base,” Anderson said.” You’d think that if she really believed her words then she’d approve of Trump, but no.

Instead she is the front person for “Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington” a “Nonpartisan ethics watchdog”. Founded to oppose Conservative  groups.

Funny that a lifelong Republican would join forces with them innit? I wonder how much they are paying her?

Of course there were no charges.

Biden classified documents case closed with no charges

Apparently when you are a democrat, intent and cooperation make the difference, as does “Difficulty of prosecution”.

Is there any way the DOJ could be more obviously partisan? I mean, we had the whitewash of the Clintons by James Comey, and now this double standard.

Of course, the Media is trying hard to run interference as they are trying to explain why Trump is facing charges for the exact same method of handling documents but Biden is being let off….

(BTW, notice that the press and the DOJ are referring to Joe Biden as “A confused old man with a poor memory”……if that is the case, and a reason to not prosecute, then why is he still President? (Look at the testimony….”Confused, unsure of dates, “limited cognition””….)

(After thinking about the above paragraph, I gotta think that that statement will be used to make Biden withdraw and then the Left will put someone (Mike Obama?) in his place on the ballot.)

First flight of the year.

So I went flying in the 340A for the first time this year on Wed.

I hadn’t been up, first due to the strain of the issue that led to my surgery and then the surgery itself, then the healing process. While I wasn’t too sure about it, again, one has to keep up if yer gonna keep on keepin’ on.

So I went to the airport, and they had already pulled the 340 out so they could get to some other plane stored behind it, which was convenient for me. Preflighted, fired it up, and taxiied to the active runway.

Called for a radio check, did the runup per the checklist (since I hadn’t flown in a month I paid particular attention to the checklist) then called my departure on CTAF, pulled across the hold-short line and lined up. Ran up to full power, released the brakes and accelerated to takeoff speed.

Climbed out at 1000 ft per minute, did a circuit of the pattern, and landed….not a perfect landing, but not bad. Slight crosswind from the right, Firmer that I generally do, but on centerline and where I wanted to touch down. Full stop-taxi-back and took off again. This time departing for an RNav approach.

Which I did perfectly until some asshole who I have never seen at the airport before cut right in front of me.. No radio calls, nothing. Flying on a more or less perpendicular vector below me, then suddenly turned and aimed for the Final Approach fix that I was descending towards. Then, after I called on CTAF to state that I was breaking off my approach, he belatedly called that he was 8 miles out on the same Rnav….except our near collision (and it was less than half a mile and less than 500 ft spacing) happened closer to 5 miles out, at the final fix, not the initial fix which was 9 miles out..he wasn’t even sure where he was, I dunno, maybe he was just one of those assholes…. Irritating though. Such is the fun of flying at uncontrolled airports…and why I have the instrumentation I do so I get traffic alerts early. There have been a LOT of near misses at the airport where this happened in the past few months, so much so that the FAA is likely to get involved. Lots of flight schools and an ever increasing amount of traffic is causing this.

Anyway, after that fun, I circled back to the initial fix and started the approach over. Again, a decent approach, slow descent from the initial fix to the final approach fix, then follow the glide slope and localizer all the way down,  this time all the way to a landing.  While I was on the approach, I heard 2 other planes in the pattern yell on the radio at the asshole who made me break off. He never made a “final” call, and never told anyone where he was in the pattern and just kinda bulled his way through.  (I’ve called the flight school that owns the airplane to complain, but that’s pretty much all I can do, they are at another airport 40 miles away and it is likely this person was on a solo practice instrument flight.)

After that landing though I gotta say that my gut and associated musculature was telling me it was time to stop, so I did.  I guess I am not as healed as I thought.

So 2 landings one (and sorta a half) practice Rnav approach (no foggles or safety pilot so it doesn’t count in the logbook as an instrument approach) and 0.8 hours.

But I am gonna have to work harder to get my gut muscles back to strength. I see the doc on Friday so we will see what he says. I think I need some exercises, but I wanna wait and see what the doc says first.

I have a trip upcoming at the end of the month, so I gotta get back to flying shape.
