A Lake County IL. deputy gets a hard lesson in negligent handling of firearms.

“WAUKEGAN — A Lake County sheriff’s deputy was airlifted to a hospital Friday morning after accidentally shooting herself in the County Building parking garage”

“At 8 a.m. Friday, Harris was removing her service weapon from the trunk of her car on the third floor of the parking garage when the weapon fired, sending a single .40-caliber bullet through her right hand and into her abdomen.

Waukegan police investigated the scene and determined that the handgun’s trigger was pulled by a hanger that was stuck in the trigger guard, said Waukegan police Cmdr. Wayne Walles.
“It’s an accident. It could absolutely happen to anyone,” Sheriff Mark Curran said. “We pray for her and we feel terrible for her.””

While I feel bad for her, and hope she recovers fully, the plain fact is that the fault is hers. This is a hard lesson, but the fact remains that this sort of “accident” is the fault of the deputy. She failed to follow several steps, any one of which would have prevented this from happening. Either the firearm should have been unloaded with the slide locked back, OR the firearm should have been secured, either in a case or in the holster (or both). Shot by a coat hanger? Negligence plain and simple. Complacency with safety rules will always catch up to you, be it a firearm or any other tool.

As this was a police oficer, it was most likely a GLOCK pistol, once again showing that the “trigger safety” is not enough. A grip safety and or other safety would also have prevented this.

But the fault lies with the deputy. Leaving a loaded firearm floating around in the trunk of a car, with no case or holster is a “recipie for diaster”.

And now she had one. Thus providing more fodder for the anti-gun folks. Making it harder for the rest of us who handle firearms safely.

Best wishes for her recovery. Hopefully she (and the rest of us!) can learn from this to prevent further negligent (not accidental!) discharges.

So farmers cannot make dust when planting or harvesting. The EPA HAS SPOKEN!

Mass protests against the “stimulus package”. Especially in the midwest, and considering the weather……And when you consider that so far, all of the protests have been on weekdays, when most non recipients have to ….you know, work. It’s easy to get a lot of people at a rally when the rally is for more government handouts, as those recipients are generally not occupied with earning a living.

But HERE are those folks whose hard earned money is being taken and used as a handout….err….”stimulus”.

Here and Here and Here are others. Despite fairly nasty weather in all locales, lots of people collected to voice their opposition and dissent (after all, didn’t we learn from the liberals during the last presidential term that “dissent is the highest form of patriotism”?) . These folks braved really cold weather to show their….AHEM….patriotism.

Chicago, Seattle, St.Louis, Denver, Sacramento, Lansing, Tempe, Houston, all organized on about 3 days notice. Imagine if none of these people had to work, and had lots of time to protest like at the Obama rallies……and if there had been real organizing and better weather.

Folks are PISSED at this. I know I am.

The legislature just told Mr. Obama to stuff his Assault Weapons Ban…

Sale Act of 2009, and any similar legislation.”

SO I bet that THIS is how the Mr. Obama will reduce the deficit:

Carbon cap and trade system is a thinly disguised tax on carbon producing fuels and industry. Taxing CO2 will raise the costs of everything we use and any energy we use. Do ya really think that we, the end consumer, will not pay for the increased cost to industry and electric companies? Lets forget the fact that cap and trade has been a debacle in every country that it has been tried in.

Ultimately WE will be the ones paying the carbon tax.

And all to reduce the CO2 produced by this country. All in the name of Global Warming. GW is an unproven theory that cannot be made to reconcile with reality. Never mind that the model upon which GW is based cannot predict today’s climate using historical data. Never mind that the temps have been coming down since 2000. (It actually appears that Carter’s Global Cooling folks might have been right 30 years ago).

If you believe that ALGORE was right in his Global Warming hype, then you might think that this is a good idea. If however, you have three working brain cells to rub together, you’d realize that this is a crock of shit. Global warming (now “climate change”) is a crock. We all know it, except those who have drunk the Kool-Aid of the church of AlGore (despite evidence showing that it is NOT happening).

But really, the CO2 is just an excuse for his Cap and Trade scheme to shove a thinly disguised tax down our throats. He needs this money for his social programs and bailouts.

After all, the money has to come from somewhere.
