Of course, it’s not their fault…

So some parents were too busy to monitor their kid, and the kid broke a $132,000 statue…..

The parents, of course, blame everyone but themselves.

” No plexiglass. Not protected. Not held down . . . There was no border around it. There wasn’t even a sign around it that said, ‘Do not touch.”.

Watch the video. Kid was unsupervised. Totally.

I think the kid’s parents should be forced to pay the bill.

I used to run a motel. Parents would leave their kids to run round for HOURS. from a young as 2 or three….No supervision, no one watching them…either to discipline or protect ’em from predators. If they got up to mischief, or got hurt, they tried to blame the business. If we tried to stop little Suzy or young Hunter from climbing into the vending machine or something, we were castigated because she/he “Isn’t your child” .

Parents are responsible for the behavior of their child, even up to and including damage they do, either through maliciousness or carelessness.

So,

I’ve noticed that the current tempest in a teapot from the media regarding the illegal immigrants has a couple of issues:

The folks detained are treated as criminals….’cause that is what they are. And the treatment of their families is the same as any parent arrested and detained by Law Enforcement: The kids are placed in protective custody, the same as any dependents of a US citizen who was arrested and detained would be. (When possible, kids are placed with family members, if not DCFS or another local agency is charged to find a place to care for them….there is no difference in the treatment of the kids of folks detained, US citizen or not).

The Trump administration is not the first to do this. But the issue gives the media a way to (independently, of course) hammer on him yet again.

The media, and especially the folks they interview, seem to feel that these illegal border crossers have every right to enter this country, and that they are doing no wrong when they do.  This is simply not the case. They have no right to enter our borders without permission.  Further, the implication is that these folks don’t cost the US anything….which is also false.  Illegal immigrants cost the US in excess of $120 BILLION every year.

At the end of the day, again, I would ask each of those folks who believe that these border crossers have every right to enter our country and live here without the permission of our government, and believe that they cost us nothing, each take a family of at least 4 members and house ’em, clothe ’em, and feed ’em. Put your money where your mouth is, folks, or you are a hypocrite. If you wish to welcome invaders into our country that will dilute our wealth and standard of living, then let us start with YOUR wealth and YOUR standard of living.

Terrible treatment:

‘Twas pointed out to me earlier Monday that the kids being separated from their parents who illegally entered the country (and who were treated like any other criminal, even to the fact that criminals of any nationality who are caught and incarcerated and NEVER allowed to keep their kids with them (no kids even in our women’s prisons, or jails either,  folks). Those kids separated from their parents at the border get better food, better healthcare, better care period…. better clothes than we give to the kids in our inner cities (who are, in my opinion, treated fairly well sometimes what with all the Free Shit that they get) and are being taught that America…Los Estados Unitos….is, indeed, the land of Free Shit.

Full court press

So the media: CBS, NBC MSNBCSN ABC, CNN, most of the east coast and west coast (and old, large city) newspapers are all (independently, of course) choosing to give us sob-stories about all these illegal alien immigrants who cross the border illegally being detained as CRIMINALS and separated from their children….

All of them, at the same time. Each and every left leaning media company. Simultaneously giving us stories of the cruelty of incarcerating the parents and separating the children from them. Odd how that timing works, innit?

Of course, the press doesn’t collude to influence public opinion. I know this because the press tells me so.

Question for some of you:

All you folks whining about the CBP practice of separating those kids from their parents when said parents are caught illegally entering the country…ETA: (And, per comments  entering at Border Stations and DEMANDING asylum (a valid, if meaningless, point))

All you folks who think that the border jumpers should be given a red carpet and welcomed into the country even without a visa…

And all those that are here already….you think they should have instant (or at least an easy, no consequences) path to citizenship…

So here’s my question:

How many of those mothers with children are you going to welcome into your home?? How many of those folks are you, personally, going to support? Feed, clothe, house, pay their medical bills….How many will be guests in YOUR house?

Are you willing to stand good for their behavior, and the behavior of their children?

Or is that someone else’s job? If so, how much are you willing to pay for someone else to house, and clothe and feed, and take care of those folks? I’m not talking taxes, that isn’t what taxes are supposed to be used for. I’m talking a significant percentage of YOUR income.

40%?
60%

Are you willing to reduce your spending to the poverty level? Move to a smaller home? Give up some possessions?

Or are you only just willing to spend someone else’s money?
If you won’t do any of the above, you are a hypocrite. You want someone else to do the work, and pay the bills….So you can feel good and then forget those folks who enter illegally.

Lucky day

Today, I celebrate my luck:

I had a Dad.

I had a dad who taught me things,

Who wasn’t violent, but did punish me when needed, even though he hated to do so. He taught me right from wrong.

Who taught me how to be a man,
Taught me to do “man things” .

Taught me when to stand up and be a man.

Who was hard, when he had to be, gentle when needed.
Strong as a rock.

Never shirked his job, and never abandoned it.

I was lucky.
Not everyone is.

I know who may dad is, and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without his guidance.

Thanks, Dad.

Happy Fathers Day.

Why is it always Democrats?

Seems now that Carmen Cruz, the San Juan Mayor (D)(Puerto Rico) is being investigated for corruption during the relief of the Island in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

Odd, isn’t it, that each time there is a major disaster, it is always the Democrats who not only exhibit extraordinary incompetence before and after the tragedy, but, eventually some form of corruption…taking advantage of the rush and confusion to squeeze a few more dollars from an already beleaguered government trying to help the citizens that need that help badly.

So we have these failings…..

Failure to prepare for the disaster beforehand.

Failure to organize relief efforts afterwards (one can, maybe, give her a pass for this….it was, after all, a disaster, and organization was no doubt troublesome in the immediate aftermath)

Failure to ensure that the supplies were sent where they were needed.

Failure to make sure that the ports and truck drivers would, you know….unload and transport those supplies to places where they were needed….instead supporting the strikes in order to gain political favor from those powerful unions.

Failure to ensure that the supplies that weren’t transported were inventoried…Tens of millions of dollars worth of supplies….food, water, medicine …Parts to restore the power grid, etc, were sitting there, not inventoried and not moved to where they were needed.

Now we find that some hastily created companies were formed….and given preferential treatment,,,,to supply items needed ..at exorbitant prices…When people were, literally, starving and dying of thirst.

It’s like New Orleans only on an island. And in Spanish instead of english.

Corruption and mismanagement killed how many folks in Puerto Rico? And all for a few dollars?

Standards?

Standards aren’t fair! I mean, they DEFINE you. And the tests MEASURE you, and make you meet Standards.

And no one likes have to measure up. It’s SO HARD.

University of Chicago to stop requiring ACT and SAT scores for prospective undergraduates

So how, exactly are they gonna measure who is capable of actually, you know, Graduating?

Or is the goal just to get people to enroll and spend (someone’s) money at the school?

ETA: I am told by people that should know better than I do that there is a great deal of thought in the academic world that the standardized tests (ACT/SAT) do not predict collegiate success as much as we might have thought. While I am not convinced, the arguments were that High School GPA and some other placement tests do a better job of predicting said success.. At this time, the jury is still out. It was also pointed out that there is a LOT of money that changes hands for the ACT/SAT every year, so there is a LOT of pushback to keep the standardized testing in place.  While I am not convinced yet, (as no one can seem to point out any studies that prove the theories, one way or the other) I now am not sure.
