He who hesitates is toast.

A lesson on why you should own a firearm and be reasonably proficient in its use and deployment. Why you should pracice often enough to maintain that proficiency.


This article explains why. The violence in Mexico is spilling over the border. Law enforcement can’t be everywhere, and they are advising folks to “arm yourself”.But to arm yourself without the skills to use those arms is foolish, and dangerous, and could lead to the person bearing arms being more confident than he/she should be.

Look, it ain’t that hard to maintain your proficiency, should it be a rifle or a pistol. A few hundred rounds a year. Why not? You might need it. Hopefully not, but you might.

Bet those folks who live on the border are wishing that they had practiced more recently. Or even that thy owned a gun…

So sometime this month, take your weapon to the range and practice. Do drills. Maintain your proficiency.

The way things are going, you might need it soon.

Of course, all that proficiency means nothing without situational awareness, but that is another discussion.

Like anyone eating fast food really cares about calories, or percentage of RDA or amount of fat or salt.

Look: I am all for helping people have a healthy lifestyle and all that. But really, do you think anyone is gonna read the calorie counts? Few read the currently mandated nutrition labels on foods you can get at the grocery store. Why would they read them standing in line at the fast food counter?

Most fat people are fat for a reason, and (excepting that minority with a gladular disorder or the like) most are fat because they don’t care about the calories they eat vs the calories they burn.  Giving them all the information on nutrition in flashing numbers will not help. Having the info printed on a card and handed to them by an attractive model will not help.

But the government doesn’t care if it is effective. they are spending someone else’s money, and, for them it’s the intent that counts, not the result.

These folks make decisions that affect every citizen in this country. There should be a test, or something.

If the Phelps family were on fire, I wouldn’t unzip to put them out…..While I am all for free speech, this is insane. The courts have rulesd that there ARE limits to free speech, and this is a case where I think that we need one.

Or then again, just let someone open up on their ass without consequencees.

To correspond to the service cuts the US Postal Service has proposed.

Since they are cutting 1/6 of their service, can we expect to see 1/6 of the managerial jobs cut as well? How about a salary reduction for the rest of the workers since they will be doing 1/6 less work?

Perhaps 1/6 less benefits or 1/6 less retirement funding? Are they gonna cut the cost of postage by 1/6?

Didn’t think so.

Ther was once a time when working for the Postal service, much like other federal civil service jobs, meant low pay, but excellent benefits, and a kick ass retirement after your 20 years was up. Now they get higher pay than an equivalent private employee AND kick ass bennies AND kick ass retirement. If the feds can’t make the postal service work, what makes you think that they can make Health Care work?

If I am not gonna get my mail on Saturdays (really not that big of a deal anyway, as most of my mail is junk mail and bills) then I wanna see some savings for my service cut.
