Two women who were shot by Los Angeles police in Torrance early
Thursday during a massive manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer were delivering
newspapers, sources said.
The women, shot in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue, were taken to area hospitals, Torrance police Lt. Devin Chase said. They were not identified. One was shot in the hand and the other in the back, according to Jesse Escochea, who captured video of the victims being treated.

If this were you, or me, or any other concealed carry permit owner, the hue and cry would be loud, hysterical, and strident. The calls for repeal of CCL permits would be growing.

And you and I would be in jail.

But not so the Police.

Why is that?

It occurs to me that if the Post Office didn’t give such deep discounts to the Junk Mail senders, but rather forced them to pay closer to (like circa 70% of) the cost that the rest of us do, then we’d not have the issues either.

Of course, if they decreased Junk Mail, then I’d have issues keeping my woodstove fed, as USPS delivered junk mail paper is about 25% of our heat source for the year.

Since the U.S. Post Office is gonna cut approximately 17 % of it’s service, are we gonna see a 17% reduction in labor costs? Are all those folks gonna get their Benefits cut by 17% too?

I mean, I am getting only 5/6 of what I was getting last week. Since the service is less, shouldn’t those people who work (and get paid a LOT for what is, essentially, what would be classified as an unskilled job) get a reduction to 5/6 of their retirement and 5/6 of their insurance benefits too?

Look: somehow the USPS cannot stop hemorrhaging money. It may well be the failure of management, or it may be the workers, or a combination of both. I really don’t care. If they can’t figure out how to do it at a reasonable cost and make it at least break even, then perhaps the lot of them, managers and workers, should be tossed and people found who CAN work in a productive manner. I have never seen a postal worker with any sense of hustle. Never seen one run (unless being chased by a large dog) never seen one appear to be hurrying. Ever.

But seriously, since the consumer (that BTW, is you and me and every other resident, business etc in the US) is getting 17% less service, then are the workers and management getting 5/6 of the pay and benefits? I mean, starting at the Postmaster General and working down.

Bet not.

Just like the freedom of speech, the right to bear arms has always been subject to reasonable restrictions by Congress. I believe Congress has a responsibility to balance the right-to-bear-arms with the concern for public safety and stability.

 “I believe in tolerance and unity and that every man and woman should be treated as equals. However, since the number of crimes committed by blacks are higher than any other race, I believe Congress has a responsibility to balance the rights of African Americans  with the concern for public safety”.

One is as logical as the other.

This, apparently, can get you arrested.

Not sure exactly how they got child endangerment out of this. (We can’t see the picture, so we don’t know where the gun was pointed) and some of those BB guns can appear to be real.

Having said that….Seriously? Arrested for child endangerment because he was holding (what appeared to be) a firearm near a child?

Has our society gone that far down the rathole?

So the other day, I watched a police officer working as a security guard park his police car carefully in a “Fire Zone, No Parking” area. When I questioned him on it, he got downright pissy.

“I am a cop!”

“What the fuck gives you the right to question me?”

“How about I check you out?”

I wasn’t much intimidated, as I have no record, had nothing illegal on me, and wasn’t doing anything wrong, so he eventually let it go…As I walked away.

But really, the attitude was, at the least, extremely disturbing. He was, in his mind, somehow better than the rest of the population. Because of his badge, he was somehow excused from obeying laws that the rest of the populace is expected to. The thought that he was, in his own mind, privileged,  was scary. Almost as if he were royalty, not a citizen like the rest of us, subject to the same laws, petty or not, that exist in society. As if he were not a citizen like the rest of us.

And yes, I did it to see what his reaction would be.

Yes, this has been going on for much longer than I have been alive. But not to the degree it currently is, and not so openly. Nor with the attitude.

How long are these folks gonna make it, if and when, with an attitude like that, when there are so many like us, who won’t put up with it?
