Funny, innit:
For spraying them with water. Lots of water, apparently. Yes, if you stretch it, it is assault. He was charged and should end up doing some time.
And yet, Federal officers in Immigrations and Customs Enforcement went around last year and shot innocent people with Pepperballs, and got away with it. Not harmless (if irritating) water, but pepper balls and pepper spray. They did it in Chicago, they did it in Dallas.. Minneapolis and Philadelphia….shot protesters at their detention facilities, and they shot at innocents in fully half of the raids they did across the country, where they shot pepperballs and pepper spray at anyone who happened to be near the person they were arresting, interfering or not. and they did it with impunity. There’s lots of video proof, yet nothing happened to them. No ICE or CBP officer got charged with assault or anything else.
Not relatively harmless water, but Pepperballs. You know: pepper based paintballs.
Why did they get away with it?
Double standards for Federal officers leads to Bad Things.
Was he in fear for his life, or just having ‘fun’? I don’t think the ICE agents were out there for ‘fun’, and I’m betting they didn’t have any local LEOs covering them, did they???
Dude, I was involved iin one of those
They swooped in, peppersrayed and/or pepperballed everyone in sight, threatening or not, and arrested a dude,
Those of us that were just on the same street didn’t even have time to react, even if we were so inclined to interfere (no one interfered) they just shot everyone they could see.
And look at the asshole on the roof shooting at people on the sidewalk (and on the public side of the fence) in Chicago. Was he threatened by people 40 feet away on the other side of a 6 foot chain link fence?
In neither of those incidents were the agents in any way threatened. Your defense fails in the face of evidence.
I think you miss my point and don’t understand the tactics those assholes used.
The one I saw and was involved in, they were never threatened, they just shot at anyone within 50 feet. Cowards.
Sorry, but you are taking the wrong side here.
You didn’t answer my questions. You’re basing ‘your’ perception on one incident that you were involved in, rather than looking at the cumulative incidents over time. I think we have to agree to disagree on this one.
valid.
More than one incident, but you also have a point.
But ICE/BP that are NOT threatened (which is what the incidents I referred to were about , (I can find the news stories if you would like)) are no different than the asshole with the water gun who was charged with assault. Shooting non threatening bystanders or protesters from tens of yards away with pepperballs is no different than shooting people with a “Powerful” water gun.
Both are assault, or neither is.
Pick one.
No ‘innocents’ got pepperballed. As*holes protesting and obstructing Law Inforcement might have been pepperballed, but no innocents were. And as these are usually paid ‘protesters’ it was just part of their contract.
Gregg: you are either sadly misinformed or you are an asshole, I am usure which.
You need to learn the facts before you spout bullshit like that.
I was there for one of those raids where they shot everyone on the street. You really don’t know what you are talking about.
Either learn or shut up.
People have the right to protest peacefully, and that’s what the people ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE were doing when they were shot from 70 feet away from a rooftop in Broadview. Lots of video on that one. Either you are blind or deliberately choosing to not learn the facts. Some people are closed minded like that, they choose a stance and don’t have the wherewithal to learn that they might be wrong.
Sorry, dude, but that’s the way it is.
