Pull our presence from those NATO “allies” that refused to cooperate with the US this time against Iran.
Take, for instance the fact that Spain refused to allow the use of the airbase at Torrejón and other airports for support aircraft in the operation against Iran.
Were it me, I’d pull all personnel and all equipment off the base, and destroy everything that the US had bult at those airports….buildings, refueling, fuel storage, and runways. Let the explosives engineers have fun. Leave nothing that the US built since the inception of NATO.
Even if you left the infrastructure, the loss of US personnel would be a devastating blow to the economy. Like make the local area end up like Flint, Michigan, Destitute. But I wouldn’t leave anything that the US had built or paid for either.
I’d do the same to Rota, the naval base.
Nothin that the US built should be left for the use of the spaniards. No US money spent in their local economy, nothing left of the installations but rubble.
I am sure that the folks in Poland would welcome the US, and likely pay for an airbase and a port for the US navy. Probably other European nations as well.
England too should get the treatment. They also played games when it mattered, even if they capitulated later.
It’s one thing not participate, it’s another to deny the use of a base that the US mostly built.
They need us, more than we need them.
Teach a (painful) lesson. It won’t be missed by the rest of NATO.
I’ve been saying, since before the Berlin Wall came down, that we need to leave NATO. Even with the Soviet Union staring at them across Poland and East Berlin, the Europeans have not really wanted to fund their own defense. Since the Berlin Wall came down they are slacking.
It made sense in 1949 for the US to provide security for Europe. In the ’50s, and ’60 certainly. By the ’70s the Europeans needed to step up, and while a few did, not enough. Then after ’89 they couldn’t be bothered.
If Germany doesn’t care enough about its security to fund its military – their readiness was pretty awful about 10 years ago – then I don’t know why the US should pay for their security.
Agreed. That isn’t how Allies do things. How much do those countries benefit from having our troops there? You know it’s a major economic boost, having all those people spending their paychecks . I was in the Air Force. I didn’t spend all my money on base. I only lived on base about the last nine months I was in.
The reality is that Trump’s “I broke it now you fix it” isn’t NATO, or anyone else, foreign policy. Had Iran attacked the U.S., NATO would assist, just as they did after the 911 attacks.
Trump launched a war of choice giving a smorgasbord of over a dozen and a half reasons that just doesn’t adequately explain it. NATO isn’t designed to serve at Trump’s pleasure over misguided and unexplained stunts.
I’m not talking about joining in the war, and unless you are stupid you understand the difference. You are a jerk but you are smarter than that, so this response must just be an anti Trump rant.

Spain (and Britain) refused to let refueling and other support aircraft use the air bases built and maintained by NATO (which means the US).
Yes, Spain and Britain rejected what they called “controversial cargo” flights, stating a desire to avoid participation in “an illegal war”.
We can agree or disagree in their rationale but my main point was that it isn’t within NATO policy to offer assistance to the aggressor.
I wouldn’t define admonishment of the war on the TDS inflicted as we’re seeing top Trump loyalist such as Tucker, Alex Jones and several others coming out against the attack.
And perhaps this is that TDS coming out in me but maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess had Trump simply realized that Iran would fight back harder than a 13 year old girl.

I hate banning people but you seem to think you can push the line over and over. Don’t.
