It’s gonna be HOT for the next couple of days!
The weather people are gong nuts. They can’t stop talking about “Heat Index”.
At the end of it, it is expected to be about 96 degrees for the next few days,. You’d think the world was ending.
I call it “Summer”.
Deal with it.
And, of course, this is “PROOF !!” of Global Warming…(these temps, even this early in the summer, are not records …..but the weather presenters oddly forget to mention that fact)
Jesus, people, it is summer. Temps between 60 and 100 (F) are normal for this area. If you can’t remember that, and believe that this is unusual because the Media tells you so, then you need help with your cognition and memory. If you can’t handle the temps, then stay inside or don’t work that hard. But it isn’t Armageddon. It’s Hot and Humid and part of the climate.
Me? I’m gonna do some work this Saturday with some folks at the Range. Infrastructure improvements. Mostly power tools and a backhoe, but we are gonna need to use shovels and such as well, it is gonna be sweaty. Instead of starting at 9 we are gonna start about 7:30….that’s the entire accommodation we are gonna make due to the heat…And we are, each of us, 55 or older.
Interesting. I never hear anyone in my neighborhood freaking out about the heat or yelling about global warming. We just plan around it, just like we’ve done for years. Not sure where the ‘hype’ is unless you’re watching TV with the volume turned all the way up.
There is however, a regular diner patron that when comes in from the show, announces his dusting off of “climate change” as he brushes off the snow. But that’s usually a good clue as to which channel is on in the background.
yes, exactly. TV weather presenters.
Read again for clarity
Got it. So it’s not everyone hyping things up — just the TV presenters you watch. That clears it up.
I am Chicago area tv….abc, cns, nbc and Fox… It really matters little which one you watch for weather, they are all cut from the same cloth.
Fair enough — just seems like a lot of weight to put on a few weather folks giving the forecast. Most I’ve seen here in Kentucky — where you can cut a slice of humidity and put it on a sandwich — just say it’s going to be hot and remind folks to stay cool. No overreacting, no Armageddon, no sky falling. Just good old common sense, like they did when I was a kid.
Yep, it’s summer…
In late-July, 2018 I walked from my home in Eaton County to Indiana (great state, by the way). The heat index was between 95F and 97F. My first day of walking was 25 miles. My second day was 26 miles. My third day was 15 miles which brought me to Ray, Indiana.
It was not a big deal. I brought plenty of “electrolyte” to drink. I started at 7:30 and knocked-off when I reached my pick-up point. All that said, I would not want to have to walk 25 miles if the heat index was much higher than 100F.
People need to get outside more and figure out what kind of wardrobe works for them. Just for the record, hats are not ornamental, they have a purpose.
Shit, as a kid I hauled bales of hay off the baler and stacked ’em on wagons in real 97F or better weather. I bet the local humidity was near 100% and very little breeze. The farmer I worked for drove the tractor in a hat, long sleeves and long pants. We wore hats and jeans and long sleeves and boots and pulled and tossed bales all day.
I do not think that the climate is appreciably warmer (might be cooler, actually) now that it was 45 years or so ago.
Same here. I’ve heard the weather people droning on about the need to stay inside, take frequent cooling breaks, etc.
I’ve always just called this ‘June in Tennessee’. Hell, wait until they get a load of August.
