A good start:

(But I bet they find the money, somehow, to buy them anyway, even without being able to use food stamps for them…)

Nebraska bans the purchase of soda and energy drinks from SNAP program.

Useta be that you could only buy real, nutritious, food with food stamps. I hope that this idea spreads, Ideally, no prepared foods, no sugary drinks, no baked goods, no frozen pizza or “lunchables”, etc. Just meat, cheese, vegetables and pasta and suchlike.

  1. I agree. If you are going to take my tax money and give it to folks for food; then I think that it should only be used to purchase nutritious foods.
Now if the recipient wants to buy crap foods; let them pay for it on their own dime. Maybe then they will have to a hard choice between their “purple drank”, Marlboros or illicit drugs.
And don’t call me racist. I’m getting sssooooo tired of that bromide. Getting to the point that it doesn’t mean what you want it to mean.

    • Thing is: If they have the money to buy the pop and energy drinks (and smokes and beer) then do they really need the food stamps?

  2. True story: Once in front of me a teen bought candy and paid with EBT card and got six dollars in change, she turned to another teen and said ‘now we have money to spend at the mall’…[purchases less than 10$ get the balance in cash]
