Why do businesses

Once you do business with them via the Internet feel that this gives them to right to blow up your inbox with promotional emails for a product that I JUST BOUGHT?

I mean, yes, I am sure that somewhere I missed that (already) checked box that said “please, send me 42 emails about your product THIS WEEK, even though I am doing business with you for the first time  (and now the last).

Yes, I wanted those 42 emails, even though I got along fine without them last week….And I am SURE that I selected that box, not that it was prechecked to turn on the flood of endless emails…

And yes, it is because of that that I will shop your competitors next time. They might not be any better at screwing with me by blowing up my inbox without my permission….But I bet one of them won’t take 4 pages to unsubscribe from their emails either.

  1. I don't think it matters what check box you use, they send the deluge anyway.
At least the ones I have experience with have honored the unsubscribe button.
I agree, it makes me much less likely to buy from them in the future.

  2. When that happens to me, I hit the unsubscribe box, and if I keep getting emails I block them. I use Microsoft outlook, and it does a much better job of keeping spam away than gmail does.

  3. The spam is irritating with no recourse except to unsubscribe. At least with the cold calls on my do-not-call-list phone, I can waste their time by asking questions and giving numbers and letters when they ask for information. Not much satisfaction, I know, but I get a laugh at the end when they finally realize what I'd done. Besides, it amuses me.
