in “Condition White“?
The civilians, I can sorta understand. They relaxed and failed to appreciate the danger. Sheep are like that. They relax and forget the danger.
But the intelligence agencies? The Army and IDF and the police? Were they all asleep at the switch? Or (as has been implied) is there something else going on?
While the attack is purely Palestinian, and the blame for the deaths lie with them, one has to ask, where were the watch-dogs? That border is one of, if not the most, heavily surveilled and sensored fences/walls in the world. Where were the folks tasked to monitor and defend it? Something ain’t right.
But the Palestinians are still on the hook for the deaths and destruction, no matter who fell down on the job.
The Israelis, due to international and leftist pressure changed the fence from what had been a double row of wire with a graded no-man’s land jeep trail inside that showed tracks or any infiltrators, and was regularly physically patrolled, to a hi-tech electronic sensor system that Hamas with the assistance of Iran essentially hacked and nullified. Combined with a storm of rockets it basically overwhelmed the system.
In short there was too much reliance on electronic warfare and it bit them in the ass when it was jammed and the attack was planned and communicated by couriers and face-face meetings rather than over means that could be electronically intercepted.
It also didn’t help that the Leftists in Israel, including the head of their foreign intelligence service, were too busy worrying about stymieing Netanyahu and not focusing enough on external threats.
And where were the intelligence services? How did they miss the assembly of 400+ rockets on rooftops and the assemblage of all the fighters?
Wouldn’t the jammed sensors indicate something was afoot? I mean, not even alert the military and defense forces?
I’m far from an expert, but something makes no sense.

Gosh, it’s sure a good thing *our* intel/.mil/border security folks aren’t looking the other way, like at some disfavored politician, isn’t it! /sarc
Sheep have two speeds: graze and stampede.
Which is why there are shepherds and sheep dogs. Or, at least, there are supposed to be shepherds and sheep dogs.
