Think of all those young soldiers in the Higgins boats and other landing craft waiting to go ashore and invade France against a dug in German defense on the beaches of Normandy..
And those men in gliders and in aircraft wearing parachutes waiting to be dropped in the countryside behind the German lines.
Yeah, that was today….in 1944.
Remember.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look around formally Great Britain or evenGermany today and the only good that came out of it is, at least they’re not speaking Deutsch (that’s German for German). Arabic and Indian gibberish is so much more soothing. My great uncle is buried in the US Cemetery in Lorraine, France. KIA with the 393rd Infantry, 100th ID in Jagtsfeld, Germany in March ’45. I’ve got a nifty posthumous Bronze Star and the citation for his troubles, but, no cousins. F’n waste.
