The same playbook

Over and over.

Remember the last government shutdown, when parks were closed, even those parks that never had park rangers posted at them? When they actually used traffic cones to block people from parking at unattended scenic overlooks just to inconvenience people because their Federal Funding was  being withheld as part of the budget battle?

DHS is doing what they can to emulate this today….TSA has to still work as they are deemed (by whom? Themselves?) as “essential” but the paid programs: TSA PreCheck and Global Entry are, of course, shut down just to inconvenience people (and make for longer lines) as much as they can while their funding is haggled over in Congress….

The game is wearing thin.

  1. In Britain it’s called “shroud waving”.

The government announces that spending next financial year will increase by less than its opponents want. They respond by saying that the “cuts” will destroy the NHS and lead to piles of corpses littering the streets. (I exaggerate only slightly.)
