Islam is not a religion. Islam controls religion, politics, commerce, banking, morals, social life, military, punishment, relations and conduct towards infidels, basically, all aspects of Islamic life, up to and including the national government.
Islam doesn’t “play well” with Western Civ. Or Buddhists. Oh Hindus. Or anything except Islam.
