Finally!

Got the 340 back yesterday.

Seems fine (so far). 2.4 hours and no issues.

A friend flew me there in an RV-6. Nice airplane, if a bit small. Fast airplane for what it is. Tiny airplane with a fairly powerful engine for it’s size. 150knots at 8K. Very responsive and really easy to fly. I did help him learn some finer points about his 650 GPS, which seemed to help him.

Flying back from Minneapolis:

17,000 feet at about 77% power I got 218 knots for about a half hour, but the outside air temps went up by 5 degrees F and I just couldn’t keep the cylinder heads cool enough, so I had to bring it back a bit.

ATC was pretty good until of course, Chicago….they didn’t want to descend me (as usual) and soon I was 40 miles away with 16,000 feet to lose. I finally demanded lower and so they turned me south rather than the easterly direction I needed and descended me…first to 12K, then 8K….then they just plain forgot about me (as usual)….I called “Chicago approach, question” and got back “Go direct destination” ….They knew that I knew that they had forgotten me.

So that cost me about 10 minutes.

I turned for home, called the field about 14 miles out, cancelled IFR and made a base leg entry, and landed.

Landing was good, right into the wind, and I made the 2500 ft turnoff with room to spare. Took the long way back for taxi as I wanted to let the turbos cool down for a bit.

We shall see. So far, no issues with the engine. The oil looks clear and clean, but there isn’t that many hours on it yet.
