Funny thing you should mention that!!? Take the “Way-Back” to the “Boat People” from the end of the Vietnam War circa 1975….pushing 50 years ago now!! These people were running around Orange county , Ca., not just snatching peoples pet Poodles and etc…. but it was noticed that what we call a “Pet Shop” they obviously thought it was a “Meat Market??” They would come in one day check out the dogs, buy one and maybe 2 or 3 days at the most later, come back and buy another, … and another,, and ON!!!!! PET STORE ???? ‘EH???

Oh please, you clearly want it both ways.
An absolute claim it never happens is self defeating. People get hungry enough and they eat what they can. Over the last hundred years has any starving person ever eaten a domestic pet? Sure, I’m sure if you look long and hard enough you can find some relatively small number of cases. And if others have done it I’m pretty sure Haitians are not immune to starvation.
So, no. I cannot categorically claim that at no time has any Haitian ever eaten a cat. I once had a couple of Marines eat the wrong fungus and go naked and quite native for about 36 hours. One was eating raw minnows and pan fish out of the lake. The other, evidently, murdered a muskrat in a protracted and bloody fight to the death. Almost lost a hand. Victorious he ate it raw, and was wearing the fur as a hat. Nothing else, just the hat. We gave them both passing grades, gentleman’s-B, for survival school once they cleared their psych evaluations, medical treatment, and both rabies and tetanus vaccinations.
That said I severely doubt eating dogs or cats happens much, verging on never for cats. Haitian cooking doesn’t feature cats or dogs. Goats and chickens take a major chop. Pig on occasion. Dog, in a real pinch. Cat, only as a last resort.
The Chinese, and to some extent Koreans, will eat dogs. It’s pretty common in some areas. To my knowledge no culture eats cats as anything but a last resort or for supposed medicinal effect. Tiger penis has a following. As do snake, slug, termite, bat, and powdered rhino horn. Name something and someone in China is eating, snorting, or rubbing a liniment made of it it into their bellies. Takes all kinds to make a world. ALL kinds.
Never had any cat myself but generally related feline species were both very gamey and stringy. Even dog takes a lot of pre-treatment (salt water and/or vinegar soak) and slow cooking at a fairly high heat for a long time (jellies connective tissues) if you plan on not having to choke it down.
I used to teach at a survival school. A lesson included was how to kill, clean, prep a live chicken with nothing but bare hands. Any semi-sharp edge makes prep and creating a fire easier but it can all be done bare handed in anything but the most uncooperative of situations.
But why. Not much wilderness left. I lived off black beans and brown rice, about $50, for a month. Ramen at a convenience store is $.50. Cocktail wienies $.70. Half that price at a grocery store. Panhandling a couple of bucks is a lot easier than catching and butchering a dog or cat. Dumpster diving is mostly free and, again, a whole lot quicker and easier than processing and cooking wildlife.
Sure, people routinely go into pet shops and buy dogs for meat. Not likely given that even a puppy is going to cost you $20. Corned beef hash goes for $1.50 a can at ALDIS. Eggs are a bit more than $2 a dozen. Haitians are not stupid. They are survivors. More practical, and smarter, than most Americans. Smarter than anyone who thinks they eat cats.
But when immigrants (legal or not) come into a community and eat the wildlife and pets, then there is an issue.
In many parts of the world, women are raped and it is acceptable, how about if that ends up being your sister or mother because that’s the way they do it in their home country? You gonna accept and attempt tp explain that away as well?
In many places, children are sold to be used. Does that make it right?
Of course people eat pets. But not here in the US, there is no reason, generally. These Haitians have plenty of support, there is no reason to eat the wildlife either. But they do. Why?
You try to come here and spin things, apologize for the behavior of the Haitians. But you can’t, because their behavior is just wrong. Are you a fed or other apologist? You suddenly appearing here (late at night as well) when you’ve never posted a comment before and making excuses tells me more and more that the stories are true. If they weren’t you and your masters would not be working so hard to discredit and explain them.
