Sometimes you wanna smack people

“You don’t have to worry about the price of natural gas, B, You heat with wood so all your heat is free“.

Grr. Heating with wood is NOT free heat. Sourcing the wood, cutting it, hauling it, stacking it, seasoning it, splitting it, maybe more seasoning, bringing it inside and stacking it in the basement. All part of the process. It’s work. And time. And sweat.

Yeah, “Free”.  Plus chainsaw maintenance and fuel, splitter gasoline and maintenance, trailer maintenance, truck fuel, etc.

Less than heating with natural gas? Yep. Free? Not a chance. Plus the time it takes.    Might be a net loss sometimes.

  1. That’s like saying eggs are free if you own chickens! Though they don’t require near the effort of that “free” wood, you DO have to build the coop, buy the chicks or hatch the eggs, heatlamp ’em when they’re young, and feed them the whole time. Feed is running me a little over $40.00 per hundredweight, and that lasts a little over a month for my eighteen hens and one rooster. For me… and you,… it’s more a bout SELF-RELIANCE than being “cheaper.” Power goes out, and you still have heat. Eggs run short at the store, and I still have eggs… and CHICKENS TO EAT, if need be!

…And I have heat covered, if need be, with a mixture of propane and kerosene heaters…

  2. Everybody ‘forgets’ about the cost of ‘labor’. You don’t work for free, nor maintain tools for free…sigh
