When the lilacs bloom, it is time to plant.
That was according to my grandfather, and using that advice I have never lost a plant to frost nor have I had seeds rot because the conditions were not right for germination.
To me, the blooming of the lilacs is the REAL start of the season.

Today is May 11th.
I had ice on my windshield this morning in Vancouver WA.
According to the weather stations around here, the latest frost on record was on a May 12th.
I have been waiting and waiting.
It’s like the weather is two months behind the calendar around here anymore.
Been that way for at least 3 years now.
