A point:

It ain’t the Catholics, nor the Protestants.

Nor the Jews, nor the Assatru, nor the Zoroastrians.

It ain’t the Wiccans, and it ain’t, the agnotics.

There is a common thread to the culture of those who commit these atrocities.

Until we admit that, we can’t begin to deal with the issue.

“Religion of Peace”.

(and look: I know many Muslims who are peaceful. But until the House of Saud and those in the other rich muslim states stop funding the Jihadis and those who preach Jihad, this will continue.

Until, of course, we non-Muslims decide to fix the issue permanently.

People are weapons.

Firearms are just tools for those people to use…

So are heavy trucks with high horsepower diesel engines.

See, that truck didn’t kill those folks on it’s own.

The Driver Did It.
 Not the truck.

My prayers for those affected by this tragedy.

I knew it was Muslim Extremist terrorism the moment I heard about it.
I honestly figured it would happen here first….And that the truck didn’t have the back of the truck filled with TATP or AMFO as a lat ditch ending….

The Sig has arrived!!!

So remember the fun I had with Gander Mountain and the Sig Sauer 1911…?

Wrong caliber….Easy mistake….
Then the “yes we will take your order” but then “no we won’t” and “yes we have it in stock”, but then “no, we don’t”….”Yes, backorders are OK”, but then, “no, sorry, that firearms isn’t available, sorry”. “We cancelled your order, but took our time about refunding your credit card”….

Well, I gave up.

Called the FFL that works through our range….we get his cost plus 10% profit for the range. Kinda nice.

All told, he got me the fixed night sight version of the pistol I wanted (adjustable target sights) for only $68 more than what I would have paid through Gander Mountain.

Got it Thursday.

Had time on Wed to go to the range and actually put it through it’s paces.

Me likey.

Standard 1911 frame, only with 25 per inch checkering on the front strap. not too sharp, but makes for a nice grip. 20 per inch checkering on the mainspring makes it easy to keep your grip  even in rapid fire.  Trigger is a nice 4.2 lbs.

I had wanted target adjustable sights, but apparently Sig, while showing them in their catalog, is really hiding them in a secret detention center outside of Indianapolis  not shipping them to any of the distributors that any of the FFL’s that I work with can buy from…so I bought this one.

Fixed night sights are OK. Good size notch, the dots are decently sized and spaced.  I can live with them. (yes, I am whining). Actually, I like em a lot. Tritium night sights are, of course, nice in the dark.

The gun shoots dead on, right outside of the box. I might go with a slightly slimmer set of grips, but these are well checkered and nicely curved and fit the hand OK. And double diamond 1911 grips are cheap and easy to find in any thickness…The “speed bump” grip safety may get a bit of filing to round the edge just a bit, especially on the left side, but then again, as I shoot it more, this may not be an issue as I might get used to it.  Dunno, have to see.

It ate factory WWB 230g ball no problem, and also some reloads (4.9 grains 231 230 g ball). Overall, 30 rounds of WWB and 50 of my reloads had zero hiccups. Ejection is very consistent. I could have placed a 5 gallon bucket in the right place and had 90% of the brass hit the mouth of the bucket. This is an external extractor, not a real JMB 1911 type (more like what you’d get on a new style Hi Power).

The 8 round mags from Sig drop free, as do my other 7 and 8 round 1911 mags. The magwell is small, but slightly beveled and reloads aren’t much trouble. (The rapid fire target from 50 feet (below), I did 2 5 shot strings in just under 4 1/2 seconds including the reload ). Could (should) have been faster, I bobbled the reload… but then again I am used to a bigger magwell….

(Yes, this group is larger than it should be….. but for rapid fire, I will take it, even with the vertical issues)

All told, I like this pistol. I will have to work with it a bit more to like it more than my Para, but we have been old friends for a while, and this newcomer is gonna take some getting used to…..

Slow fire, now I gotta say, that was fun. Group size was just over 3″ at 50 feet, and the pistol came back on target nicely each time. Can’t say that I am unhappy with this target.

Yeah, I’ll take that….

There may be better ways to spend a hot summer afternoon, but getting to know your new pistol is high on my list….

More class

So Bernie has more class then all the GOP ex nominees…

He was able to suck it up and endorse the candidate who clearly beat him for his Party’s support.

Says something about the level of class and gravitas that our pool of GOP candidates have, doesn’t it? I mean, Bernie had the grace to throw his support to Hillary, yet Trump is still waiting for Jeb and his ilk to do the same .

Today:

Prime Day on amazon.

Buy through the link on the left there please.

(Prime is a good deal if you buy a lot through Amazon….in fact, it will change the way you buy things…)

But today is Prime day for those of you who aren’t Prime members the rest of the time.

Bad, no matter how you look at it.

So the alternative media (internet) has pointed out that the dude shot in Minneapolis, Philando Castile, was carrying a gun, and that the officer had a good reason to be twitchy, as he had pulled the car over because the driver somewhat resembled a person of interest for a robbery that had occurred 4 days before….

I don’t buy it.

Now, a couple of points: I have been pulled over and questioned by police because I resembled a dude who had actually SHOT at officers. They were firm, polite and professional, if a bit tense. They knew and understood that I might not have been the guy they were looking for. Make no mistake, I could have been shot that night, but they were’t hair trigger cocked and locked waiting for me to move wrong so they could shoot me. (but had I done something stupid, I might well have been perforated). I am just glad I didn’t sneeze…..

The presence of a gun, by anyone, black or not, is not a reason for a cop to shoot anyone (were that the case, then cops themselves should be shot by every armed citizen that sees them, doncha think?) . Nope, until the pistol is grasped and POINTED, or at least moved towards the cop, the cop has no reason to be shooting anyone. Just because the pistol is in view is not a valid reason to shoot. Draw from the holster? Maybe even point it at the person they have pulled over? Perhaps…… But shoot just because the gun is seen (and remember, announced at the start of the traffic stop)….?

I am all about officer safety. I would like to see each cop go home safe and uninjured at the end of every shift. But if the officer has that thought in mind only, even up to shooting innocent (and remember, until there is reasonable evidence that the dude did commit the robbery, he is innocent) people because he “felt threatened” because there was an announced firearm in the car, then he shouldn’t be a cop. If his fear overrides all else, if he will shoot someone just because there is a gun in the car and because the person he is afraid of doesn’t sit still like a statue, then he shouldn’t be a cop….in fact, he shouldn’t be allowed to carry a gun at all, ever.

Now, having said that, I wasn’t there. I didn’t see what happened prior to the start of the video. I didn’t see what Philando Castile did to make the officer put 4 in his torso….but I gotta say, no matter how you slice this, it looks bad. Very bad.

Let’s recap:

Vague resemblance to the description of a robber from 4 days ago. Black male, wide nose, dreadlocks.
In car with family….child in backseat.
Officer is told up front there is a firearm in the car.
Dude moves when told to freeze, but also was told to show ID conflicting orders? Dunno. Still not a reason to shoot him unless he places hand on gun and draws it or attempts to. Yeah, I know, it can all happen in a second and all that. Still…

Nope, I, who am more than likely gonna give the cops the benefit of the doubt in most cases, can’t do so this time.

I’ve been there. My officers stepped back, and (with drawn pistols, mind you) asked (ordered) me to open the door from the outside with my left hand and step out with my hands in plain view….(and remember, this was 20 minutes AFTER (and 10 miles away from) when some dude who looked like me and was driving a similar vehicle had SHOT at an officer….they asked me to turn around and then they removed the pistol from my holster….then they investigated who I was and where I was coming from. Much more professionally done, and much safer for all of us….. They gave clear directions and I followed them. They were tense but calmly professional….Not scared shitless because someone else had a firearm….Maybe because I am white, but I really don’t think so….more because they were professional and smarter about the whole thing…. I’m glad, ’cause I didn’t end up dead. Or shot.

I think Officer Jeronimo Yanez was afraid, overreacted and shot a man by mistake.
